About Us : The History

LifeLine Church has been working in North and East London since 1978. Throughout its 30 year history, it has flexed and developed through many different expressions of ‘church’. Born out of the house church movement, we have always focused on practically expressing our faith. It was this focus that caused us to begin to reach out to others beyond the church, and more and more individuals began to be drawn into the shared life of the community.

In 1985, we divided into several congregations across London to enhance outreach into local communities. Most of these congregations later rejoined to become LifeLine Church, based in Dagenham.

Around 1990, we began to connect with leaders around the world who shared our heart to follow God’s purposes in impacting communities. Out of these relationships, LifeLine Network was born. LifeLine Network seeks to break cycles of poverty and injustice at grassroots level across the world, by sharing resources and training and equipping and encouraging one another. The Network is still growing today, and you can read more about its work on page 16.

In the late 1990s, God spoke to us about serving the local community, and this is something we continue to pursue, both through the work of the church and through its affiliated social enterprise, also known as ‘LifeLine’.

Our journey continues to be focused on loving God, loving one another and demonstrating what God is like to the world.
