Sadly, my sister, Sue, passed away earlier this year. In all that happened I was shown much love, care and support, but one thing in particular stands out as an answer to prayer…
Sue had been paying for the storage of some family furniture and other items at a local storage facility. She’d always intended to take these items back to her flat. She paid by direct debit every four weeks and her final payment was on 16th April, the day of her funeral. I paid the £400+ for another four weeks rental, until 14th May, to give some time to clear the room.
Very good friends of Sue helped me to sort and clear books, papers, clothing but it left the large items of furniture Sue’s piano, a display cabinet, a single wardrobe and my parents’ large, very heavy solid dining room table and chairs. I knew it would be difficult to get rid of them. I phoned various charities and finally ‘Re-use, Re-cycle, a Christian Charity agreed to come and look at the furniture. Nobody I spoke to wanted the piano.
My father bought the piano for Sue when she was a teenager and specialising in music at school. She went on to play for assemblies and concerts whilst teaching. It had always been looked after and was in good condition and the thought of it going to land fill was dreadful to me.
‘Re-use, Re Cycle’ came on 6th May and took the display cabinet and wardrobe. We talked about the piano and the table and how difficult I was finding it to clear the room. As they left the young man in charge asked if he could pray and I agreed. He prayed that the room would be cleared by the time the month’s payment for the storage facility ran out on 13th May, and that it would not be a hassle and stress to me for this to be done.
I am not digitally savvy and comments about e-bay had passed me by. Then a friend suggested that I use WhatsApp to let people know and another friend helped me to do that. The piano was collected by someone on 13th May, who also took the dining room table and chairs for the Men’s Shed, along with some storage crates. The room was finally clear and on time! The young man’s prayer, and mine, had been answered.
When I signed off the papers for the room I was even given a refund! I had had the room for the full four weeks so that was totally unexpected.
